Rebuilding Konga’s shopping app in Flutter without closing the shop
Konga is Nigeria’s online marketplace, and its mobile app is where shoppers pay: a platform doing over $50 million in sales, with more than 200,000 people shopping from their phones. I’m rebuilding that app in Flutter, one codebase for both app stores, without dropping a single checkout along the way.

Why it’s hard
Rewriting a revenue-critical app is rarely about the new code. The old app has to keep selling the whole time. Every week the rebuild takes is a week of releases, fixes and campaigns on the app it is replacing, and shoppers should never notice the handover.
Keeping the native app selling
A rebuild is no excuse to stop selling, so while the Flutter work moved forward I kept the native Android app shipping. I fixed guest checkout to cut friction at the till, added richer product filters and a global flash-sale banner, improved analytics tracking, and made product listings faster, along with a long tail of smaller bugs.
One codebase, two stores
The new app is Flutter, with Kotlin and Swift for the native platform code. One Dart codebase ships to both Google Play and the App Store, so a fix or a feature lands for every Konga shopper at once instead of twice on two schedules.
